BEETS N'JAMZ

It's always dinner time at my house.
Today’s food pairing is near and dear to my heart. The above country ham biscuit with fig jam and grafton cheddar cheese from Egg was one of the first delicious things I experienced in Williamsburg about 7 years ago while visiting from Los Angeles. This decadent Southern-inspired biscuit sandwich was my first foray into Brooklyn’s food scene, which I think generally orients itself around comforting and rustic fare. Over time, Egg transformed into a tourist hot spot, thanks to all the mentions in various food magazines/blogs. Bon Appétit even featured the recipe for the country ham biscuit (click for recipe). So needless to say—I rarely get the chance to come through. The last time I did, it was at 8 am, before work, and I was definitely not in the mood for serious eating.
My friend Vanessa moved here from LA two days ago. I thought a proper brunch would be a good start to her new life here, not to mention, make her feel better about United Airlines accidentally relocating her luggage to Maui. She ordered the Country Ham Biscuit; I had the Sorghum Granola. I watched her clean her plate. It was like watching myself do the same 7 years ago.
Breakfast Pairing: Alabama Shakes - “I Found You”
