Last week’s visit to Los Angeles included a pitstop at Tacqueria El Atacor #11 in Lincoln Park, home of the deep-fried potato tacos. Not for the faint of heart, but certainly for the taco fiend who only has a few bucks to spend. My very umami-rich carne asada taco was $1, which included two greasy oil-dipped corn tortillas topped with equally as greasy marinated meat. And of course, tons of onion and cilantro. This was followed by a spud taco—potato with cheese wrapped in a corn tortilla, deep fried, and topped with crema and lettuce. No Jamaica, so I settled for a styrofoam cupful of horchata. Unfortunately, not pictured.
Lunch pairing: Althea & Donna - Uptown Top Ranking. None of that fancy stuff at Taqueria Atacor. So as Althea and Donna would say in the song, “No pop no style, a strictly roots.”
